This Is Us.
We are DeVon and Danah Artis. We have two beautiful and intelligent daughters as well as a “doggie daughter.” Family time, traveling, and food are some of our favorite things. In our nearly 15 years of marriage, we have laughed together, cried together, fought together, and overcame together. For over a decade we have been thriving in our marriage. Our passion and life purpose is to help people like you create your own legacy of a happy healthy home.
You see, we both were born to single mothers. We know firsthand the struggles mothers go through trying to take care of a family all by herself—survival mode. Through our childhood we both saw our mothers in verbally, and physically, abusive relationships. No matter how hard they tried to protect us from what was going on, we were eye witnesses to the pain and brokenness. We were eye witnesses to the wearing masks and pretending everything was wonderful. We were eye witnesses to the rejection. Out of all the mess we witnessed, one powerful lesson both of us learned is that we didn’t want that type of life when we grew up for ourselves or our children. Okay, we knew exactly what we didn’t want but we didn’t know what a healthy relationship looked like either.
As single adults, before we ever met, we intentionally worked on how to have a healthy relationship. Through books, classes, hanging with healthy couples, counseling, and coaching we were able to learn what is required to be successful in marriage. Even with all this knowledge, we still faced obstacles in our marriage. We didn’t give up. Divorce was not an option, though the thought did cross our mind. We got help and overcame the very thing that was trying to destroy us. For over a decade we have enjoyed married life.

DeVon M. Artis
DeVon is an award-winning educator, communicator, and coach. He’s worked with top executives at Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII), coaching them on communicating and connecting with employees. Also as a performance coach at HII, DeVon works with general foremen to guide them on creating strategic action plans to improve employee performance. Trained in the Crucial Conversations methodology, he’s an expert at removing roadblocks, having difficult conversations and discovering resolutions. DeVon is phenomenal at seeing the potential in people and guiding them to their best self.
Leveraging the knowledge he obtained from Norfolk State University, with a degree in Mass Communications & Journalism and a master’s degree in Media Management, DeVon has led various organizations in bringing their message to the masses. He’s worked with churches, non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 companies, his diverse background in communications makes him an expert in the field. He’s worked in television news at WVEC-13 and WTKR-03 in Hampton Roads, VA. His outstanding work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Among the many awards he’s received; one of his most prestigious honors was being “coined” by the president of HII, Jennifer Boykin.

Danah M. Artis
Danah is a master teacher and curriculum developer in communications with expertise at a professional and personal level. During her eleven year career at Verizon Communications, she was a sought after Senior Staff Consultant in Training and Development. She led multiple high profile nationwide training efforts in the consumer sales and service department; like the Bell Atlantic/GTE merger and the Verizon FiOs product. Danah received several awards for her accomplishments and contributions to Verizon’s success. She was instrumental in improving Customer Care Index ratings and J.D. Power & Associates scores for the Verizon FiOs product when it first launched. Her key focus was communication and service to FiOs customers.
At the height of her success, Danah decided to leave her career to pursue her passion; to build a legacy of a healthy happy home. Danah believes that family was the first, and is the most important, organization we lead. She finds great pleasure in teaching people how to live a successful life. As a graduate from Regent University, with a degree in Organizational Leadership & Management, as well as Communications, Danah adds a perfect blend of professional expertise, academic understanding, and faith to her teachings.
Outside of teaching and coaching adults, Danah homeschools her two daughters and is a Girl Scout troop leader.
